A significant obstacle in preventing stunting is finding a practical way to assess children's nutritional status. This community study aims to raise awareness and educate people about the use of Android-based tools for monitoring body mass index (BMI) and basal metabolic rate (BMR) as innovative methods for detecting stunting risk. The device, tested on 16 infants, enables users to submit detailed data to a web platform for further analysis. Findings reveal that this tool simplifies processes, accelerates data handling, and provides quicker access to up-to-date information, thereby reducing the burden of manual tasks. Results also show that most infants have healthy growth, although some individuals may need more time to understand the benefits. In general, this web-based solution greatly improves the precision and speed of stunting detection and could be widely adopted in areas with limited healthcare infrastructure. However, the study is limited by its small sample size and limited assessment of result length. Future research should focus on a broader population and integrating this tool into larger healthcare systems. This innovation facilitates timely and accurate monitoring of young children's health. The hope is that it will become part of regular posyandu services to help strengthen the stunting prevention program across the Puskesmas Krembangan Selatan area.
Muhammad Ridha Makruf Andjar Pudji Priyambada Cahya Nugraha I Dewa Gede Hari Wisana Copyright (c) 2025 Muhammad Ridha Makruf; Andjar Pudji https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-10 2025-10-10 4 3 70 74 10.35882/ficse.v4i3.116 Efforts to Control Blood Pressure for Prolanis Hypertension Members through the Utilization of Bay Leaf Decoction https://ficse.ijahst.org/index.php/ficse/article/view/104
Bay leaves are a type of kitchen spice that is often added to dishes, inexpensive, and easily obtained. Research results have proven that the active compounds in bay leaves are quite effective and safer in lowering blood pressure. Most of the Sreseh residents work as fishermen who tend to consume salty foods, which causes a high incidence of hypertension. Therefore, it is necessary to increase knowledge about healthy lifestyles and the use of herbal medicine made from boiled bay leaves to lower blood pressure among Prolanis hypertension members in the Sreseh Health Center area. The methods used in this community service activity are lecture/presentation and demonstration methods. Lecture activities are carried out by delivering material on the prevention and natural treatment of hypertension using bay leaves, the benefits of bay leaves, and the processing of bay leaves for hypertension treatment. The demonstration method is carried out by showing how to process bay leaves. The target of the activity is Prolanis hypertension patients in Noreh Village, within the working area of the Sreseh Health Center, Sampang, Madura. Members of the Chronic Disease Management Program (PROLANIS), especially those with hypertension, were very enthusiastic and motivated to participate in every stage of the community service activity, from blood pressure checks, Prolanis exercises, to education on the benefits of bay leaves. After consuming boiled bay leaves, blood pressure checks on Prolanis members with hypertension showed a 30% decrease in the number of Prolanis members with hypertension, from the previous 76.67% to 46.67%.
Anik Handayati Suhariyadi Pestariati Copyright (c) 2025 Anik Handayati, Suhariyadi, Pestariati https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-10 2025-10-10 4 3 10.35882/ficse.v4i3.104 Empowerment of Health Cadres in Improving Skills through Training on Early Detection and Warning Signs of Pregnancy in Kabunan Village, Balen District, Bojonegoro Regency https://ficse.ijahst.org/index.php/ficse/article/view/102
Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in Indonesia remains high. One of the contributing factors to the high maternal mortality rate is undetected high-risk pregnancies. Antenatal Care (ANC) is crucial as it not only serves to monitor the health of the mother and fetus but also to detect potential risks during pregnancy. The objective of this community service is to enhance the knowledge and skills of health cadres in the early detection of high-risk pregnancies. The target audience for this community service activity consists of 30 Posyandu cadres from Kabunan Village within the Balen Health Center area, Bojonegoro. The methods used in this activity include the provision of materials through lectures and discussions, distribution of leaflets, and a simulation of filling out the Poedji Rochjati Score Card. The results of the activity show that there was an increase in knowledge after the training, with participants demonstrating a rise in good knowledge from 3.39% to 8.30%. The cadres' skills in performing early detection of high-risk pregnancies showed an average score of 84, and 66.7% of the participants performed very well in the health education category. Conclusion: The improvement in knowledge and skills in filling out the Poedji Rochjati Score Card for early detection and referral in preparation for complications in both mothers and newborns can contribute to reducing maternal and child mortality, particularly in Kabunan Village within the Balen Health Center's jurisdiction, Bojonegoro.
Aris Handayani Lilik Triyawati Sri Wahyuni Copyright (c) 2025 Aris Handayani, Triyawati, Wahyuni https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-10 2025-10-10 4 3 10.35882/ficse.v4i3.102 Assistance for Disaster-Responsive and Resilient Urban Village through the Implementation of Appropriate Technologies: Infiltration Wells, Biopores, and Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) https://ficse.ijahst.org/index.php/ficse/article/view/117
Indonesia’s population growth more than 273 m in 2021, has brought various environmental challenges, particularly in urban areas such as Surabaya. Jambangan Urban Village, with over 52,000 residents, faces issues of flooding and fire hazards due to limited green open spaces, inadequate drainage, and insufficient emergency facilities. Moderate rainfall often leads to flooding, while in 2017 a major fire incident destroyed houses and workshops because of the lack of pumps and hoses to access nearby river water before firefighters arrived. These conditions highlight the urgent need for integrated disaster preparedness and environmental management. Community service initiatives have been carried out in Jambangan to address these challenges. The infiltration wells 3 units has contributed to flood reduction and groundwater conservation. Waste management activities, led by community organizations such as W Queen, have supported environmental preservation and the vision of a flood-free tourism village. Additionally, the introduction technologies biopores, infiltration wells, and Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) practices, including proper handwashing and oral health maintenance has improved community awareness and resilience. The outputs of this program include academic publication in an indexed international journal and the development of intellectual property products such as educational leaflets and documentary videos on disaster preparedness. The outcomes for community partners are significant: reducing flood risks, improving firefighting readiness, strengthening knowledge of appropriate technologies, and promoting healthier lifestyles. Ultimately, the active participation of the community in water conservation, waste management, and disaster response is essential to building a resilient and sustainable urban environment in Surabaya.
Fitri Rokhmalia Khambali Rachmaniyah Imam Sarwo Edi Copyright (c) 2025 Fitri Rokhmalia https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-10 2025-10-10 4 3 75 81 10.35882/ficse.v4i3.117 Empowerment of Health Cadres for Sanitation and Health Promotion, Gambang Village, Jombang https://ficse.ijahst.org/index.php/ficse/article/view/115
Inadequate organic waste management in rural communities poses significant environmental and public health challenges, necessitating sustainable interventions at the grassroots level. This community service initiative aimed to establish waste management capacity in Gambang Village, Gudo District, Jombang Regency, through the implementation of Takakura composting systems toward achieving Ecovillage status. The intervention employed a mixed-method approach combining physical resource provision, educational counseling, and hands-on training. Ten Takakura composting units were distributed to health cadres, accompanied by comprehensive training sessions on composting techniques and organic waste utilization. Educational materials were delivered by faculty and students from the Environmental Health Department of the Surabaya Health Polytechnic, Ministry of Health, to health cadres and community residents. Knowledge acquisition was assessed through pre-post test measurements across multiple environmental health domains. Results demonstrated substantial improvements in participant knowledge: biopore understanding increased from 15% to 70%, infiltration well comprehension rose from 10% to 80%, and dental health awareness improved from 13% to 74%. The composting demonstration activities generated considerable enthusiasm among health cadres, evidenced by active participation in discussion forums and question-answer sessions regarding Takakura tool applications and benefits. The intervention successfully enhanced health cadres' practical skills in compost production and organic waste management. This community-based approach demonstrates promising potential for replicating sustainable waste management practices across neighboring communities, thereby advancing the broader objective of establishing Self-Reliant Waste Villages (Ecovillages) in rural Indonesia. The integration of participatory training methods with tangible resource provision proved effective in fostering community ownership and sustained behavioral change in environmental health practices.
Imam Sarwo Edi Ernita Sari Yaimin Copyright (c) 2025 Fitri Rokhmalia https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 2025-10-10 2025-10-10 4 3 63 69 10.35882/ficse.v4i3.115
